This summer, The Queer Mathematics Teacher, in conjunction with the Mathematical Association of America, Radical Pedagogy Institute, Hudson River Trading Foundation, and Teach about Women are launching our fourth year of "Camp" of Mathematical Queeries (bit.ly/CampMathQueeries24). "Camp” of Mathematical Queeries is a FREE, virtual mathematics enrichment program for 2SLGBTQIA+ students entering grades 9-12. Throughout the duration of “Camp,” July 8 - July 31, students will connect with 2SLGBTQIA+ peers and mentors, and engage in activities of mathematical problem solving tasks centered on the topic of gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is a way politicians redraw voting districts to weaken or strengthen the power of specific communities, including queer and trans communities. Algebra, geometry, combinatorics, graph theory, computer science, and history all help us understand gerrymandering and its impact on queer and trans communities.
Applications will be accepted through May 31st. Additional information for "Camp," as well as the application, may be obtained from the QMT website linked above. If you have any questions or would like to further discuss this program, please feel free to email the "Camp" Program Director, B Waid, at b.waid@TheQueerMathematicsTeacher.com.
